Some of my favorite days as a programmer were at the BBC’s White City campus. It was a beautiful, bright, modern space (at the time, anyway), and there were areas you could go and hide-away and be seriously productive. If you’re going to be onsite in an office, it should be somewhere that’s an active joy to be in – somewhere this client has really taken on board.
While the general working areas are nice, the whole building is themed to be a big, beautiful house, from the tree-house meeting room to the wine-cellar hacking space, a library conference room, and a fully functional onsite fitness center. It’s close to some of London’s best street food, so if your best work requires an inspirational surrounding and a full belly, this is the place for you.
The workspace isn’t the only thing to love – the team is large, motivated, well-organized and happy, and a number of ex-colleagues of mine are having a roaring time there. The work you do will be seen by millions of people in the UK, and the solutions you come up with will be deployed at scale. There’s a firm focus on modern and effective development practices.
Finally the office is close to London Bridge station, so if you’re not planning to live in London, it can still be an easy commute. If – like me – you like to take the boat to work, it’s super convenient for that too.
